Dancesport Dancers

Dancers

We went dancing!

Wow, what a night! 88 of our Year 5 Students (and a few Year 6 students) headed to Homebush to compete in the inaugural Dancesport Gala. Excitement and nerves filled the air as the students entered the performance hall. The Dancesport program at school has run for 15 weeks and has taught students ballroom dances such as the Cha Cha, Tango, Salsa and Jive. At the beginning of the program, many students were apprehensive to dance with a partner, but by the end, many students were asking when they could go out and practice the dances again.

For each of the four dances, three couples were chosen to receive a Golden ticket,  which got them through to the quarter-finals. The following students made it through to this round:
Cha Cha- Josh and Tilde, Abrianna and Samet, Sophia and Harry
Tango-Rabsel and Zahli, Ezrah and Jessica, Kushtej and Zoe
Sala- Mia D and Laia, Elena and Tenzin Deje, Isabel and Toni
Jive-  Mia and Rangdol, Georgie and George, Jordan and Ryu

Some of these students also made it to the semi-finals, and two couples made it to the Grand Final. Congratulations to Mia F and Rangdol, as well as George and Georgie for making it into the Grand Final and placing 4th and 7th. What a huge achievement!

Dee Why Public School also won the Hon Sandra Nori Founder's award for the most outstanding school contribution to the spirit and success of the program. Congratulations Dee Why!

Thank you to Mrs Antill-Cassie, Mr Freeland and Miss Horton for organising the event.
