We had a visit from the American maths expert, Pam Harris!
Over the last 18 months, Dee Why Public School has been working with the American maths expert, Pam Harris, to improve the maths pedagogy (the art of teaching) for our teachers. We have participated with professional learning (PL) sessions online during 2023. During 2024, we have been working through Pam's video suite of maths PL in our Stage Teams. This term, we began the semester with working with Pam and 5 other neighbouring schools on a whole day Staff Development Day workshop. Pam took hundreds of Northern Beaches teachers through the best approach to many maths strategies which align very closely with the new NSW Department of Education curriculum.
All teachers thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, and in particular the sessions whereby Pam taught a Year 1 and a Year 6 class at Dee Why Public School. Our students were commended on both their participation and fine behaviour during the lessons.
